Hydro Informatics Institute and DHI reinforce common focus on emerging technologies in Thailand and the region

Devastating flood and drought events that happened in Thailand during 2011 and 2015 respectively underline the need for cutting edge technology to help decision makers mitigate the impact of these hazards.

Since 2012, DHI has played an important role in the development and implementation of flood forecasting and management systems covering the whole of Thailand, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Hydro Informatics Institute (HII) and DHI has reinforced our long-term partnership.

The MoU targets the following key areas:
  • Exchanging knowledge and information on state-of-the-art water management technologies
  • Developing and/or integrate new technology for modelling, water resources, and flood and drought assessment
  • Enhancing capacity building on water management technology for water resources, flood and drought modelling, as well as information management supporting both national and regional requirements with a high level of technical expertise

HII is recognised as the leading Hydro Informatics Institute in the region, and the collaboration with DHI is focused on the long-term sustainability through capacity building and transfer of technology.

Today, HII is running flood warning systems covering the entire country, providing real-time assessments of flood risks and flooded areas. The back-end part of the systems include DHI’s decision support systems (DSS) which integrate data, models, optimisation modules, user scripting and other tools – providing a platform for assisting national ministries and agencies with decision-making across sectors in Thailand.

Over the past years, HII and DHI have expanded our collaboration to projects across the region and the MoU will mark the start of many successful collaboration now and in the future.
