Assessing potential flood risks of a new construction site in Slovakia

To provide flood risks assessment of a site for a new business center in Bratislava, Slovakia, DHI has been contracted by HB Reavis, a property developer, to contribute our expertise in the safety assurance of the new construction in accordance to BREEAM’s assessment indicators

BREEAM, short for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is a leading sustainability assessment method for the planning of projects, infrastructure and buildings. The BREEAM assessment process evaluates the procurement, design, construction and operation of a construction project based on several indicators such as energy use, land use, pollution and waste. 

Our assessment of flood risks at the new site was based on the BREEAM assessment criteria. In addition to this, the assessment was conducted in accordance to the good practice guidance outlined in the Planning Policy Statement 25 Practice Guide for flood risk assessment in planning process, formulated by the Government of UK.

With the risk assessments of such new development sites, investors and future owners are able to make informed decisions regarding the safety and sustainability of these new constructions in order to avert financial loses as well as take precautions to prevent and mitigate impacts. DHI is glad to have been engaged by HB Reavis and provided them with the assessment that lends assurance to their new development.

To carry out the modelling of the flood risk, DHI utilised available historical, geological, topographical data as well as design documentation of the proposed construction, in order to get the most accurate and credible assessment of the site.
