Developing Flood Risk Management Plans for Poland

We’ve signed a contract to develop Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) for 90% of Poland.

Working with the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, Grontmij and Arcadis, the EUR 10 million project will cover the Vistula, Oder and Pregola River Basins. This accounts for nearly 90% of Polish territory. We will be responsible for the development of FRMPs in the Upper Vistula and Smaller Vistula – two flood-prone regions that suffered heavy flooding in 2010.

Utilising the expertise and resources of our offices in Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Germany, we will develop:
  • a dedicated FRMP MIKE CUSTOMISED planning platform
  • a project management Sharepoint platform
Both systems will be interconnected to increase workflow efficiency.

The project – part of the final stage of the implementation of the European Union Flood Directive – will have a major impact on all future flood protection activities in Poland.

The FRMPs should be completed and approved by the Polish Government by the end of 2015. The FRMPs will then be updated every six years.
